About ME
Hi, I'm Yu Hang.
And yes, Yu Hang is my first name. It comes with a space.
Photographer among other things...
1. I'm a doctorate student studying choral music at University of Southern California
2. cooking-shows-taught cook
3. travel enthusiast (I have a business degree with a major in Tourism Management!)
4. big choir nerd
5. Obsessed with peanut, butter, peanut butter, and garlic (not all together!) so much that I named my three beagles Peanut, Butter and Garlic.
It all started...
seven years ago when I was doing my summer internship at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, AB. I remember I was telling my mom over our phone calls about the Canadian Rockies, Lac Beauvert (the lake right in front of the hotel, the photo below), and my fun day trips to different lakes and mountains in the area, but I found words and phone photos did no justice to sceneries I saw.
The same happened when I was writing Facebook statuses. I found myself typing, re-writing, and deleting them. I always felt like something was missing in what I wrote - and that's when I started taking more photos and getting more into the art of it.
My goal is to create photos that speak to myself, the subject I was shooting, and the audience. I want to capture your true character and emotions. Years from now, I want you to look at your photographs and have all of those memories come flooding back.
This goal goes hand in hand with my photography style, which is
Raw, genuine and simple.
I don't like photos that are overly posed and staged. Best moments in life aren't planned. They simply just... happen. That's why once you're comfortable in front of the camera, I direct you rather than posing you frame by frame.
This photography style extends to my post-processing as well. I keep post-processing as simple as possible to let the raw and genuine moment shine. I use a lot of natural light and back-lighting. To me, that's the loveliest filter nature has to offer.
